Through September 14, 2014, the Independence Seaport Museum hosts an exhibition about the SS United States, the world's fastest trans-Atlantic ocean liner that sailed the seas in the 1950s and 1960s.

SS United States: Charting a Course for America's Flagship contains photographs, items from the ship and architectural drawings inside of the museum's 2nd floor community gallery.

Learn about the high-level passengers it transported — celebrities, socialites, royalty — along with what the ship meant for the world during the 1950s and 1960s.

Also learn about the SS United States' Philadelphia connections including the ships' engineering work, designed by William Francis Gibbs, a local maritime architect.

Museum-goers will also be alerted to the current conservation efforts for the Ocean liner since its loss of popularity during the beginning of the jet age.

Access to the exhibition is included in the price of general admission which is $13.50 for adults, $10 for seniors, students, children and military.
