Tool Tip: Easy Tube Bending

To bend PVC water pipe or electrical conduit to exactly the angle you want, you don't need a purpose-designed tube bender. A heat gun will soften the plastic. But the pipe will tend to fold and crimp. To create a smooth curve, first insert a long spring that is equal in diameter to the interior size of the pipe, or slightly smaller. Heat, bend, then remove the spring. Three-foot springs are available from McMaster-Carr, ideal for this purpose.
